This workshop, taught across two Saturdays, will enable participants with prior experience of the black and white darkroom to take their printing to the next level. This intensive course will concentrate on the important aspects of making expressive prints on fibre-based paper through demonstration and student guidance. Subjects covered include:
• Contrast, tonal control and print balance using split grading, dodging and burning
• Flashing, fogging and selective flashing for tonal correction and for effect
• Archival processing
• Paper choice
• Toning and after treatments
• Print presentation and spotting
• Sequencing and working in series
• Negative interpretation
All materials will be provided; you will need to bring your own B&W negatives to print from.

Mike Crawford is a photographer and specialist photographic printer based in London. He has printed for many leading photographers, working on numerous exhibitions and publications. In addition, he has held several exhibitions of his own photography, primarily working in urban landscape and portraiture. Mike is an Ilford Photo Master Printer and has taught at several Universities and Institutes and is the author of four technical photographic books and numerous articles for various photographic magazines.
