About the Event

The salt print was invented by William Henry Fox Talbot in the 1830s, and remained the most popular form of photographic printing until the 1850s.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to hand-coat art paper with light-sensitive chemicals, before exposing it with a negative to UV light and processing to make your own salt prints.

The workshop covers the basics of salt printing, including:

  • History of the process
  • Paper choice and preparation
  • Mixing salt and silver solutions
  • Coating, exposing and processing paper
  • Finishing your prints

You will need to email us a selection of high resolution digital images a week before the workshop.
